Workshop 1: Pranayama
Saturday 18th August 2018
The principles of Yoga according to the father of modern Yoga, Sri Tirumalai Muchukunte Krishnamacharya, with special emphasis on Pranayama.
The first workshop will be divided into three parts:
1) Introductory discourse on the principles of Yoga
2) Practice of Yoga with special emphasis on pranayama
3) Concluding discussion after the practice so that the participants can absorb the following points.
The practice of yogasana is incomplete without the practice of pranayama since asana essentially is dynamic pranayama preparing for static pranayama, especially if we want to do some meditation too.
Static pranayama, or pranayama proper, is usually done after the practice of asana in a static seated position, preferably with the legs crossed and the back straight. The eyes are closed, the body doesn’t move except for the torso and all attention is turned towards lengthening and/or suspending the breath.
So, pranayama is the crown of asana practice and the foundation for solid meditation. And various modes of meditation then spontaneously arise when concentrated conscious breathing clears our mind and softens our Heart.
Workshop 2: The Yoga-Sutras
Sunday 19th August 2018
The foundations of classical Yoga according to the Yoga-sutra attributed to Patanjali, with special emphasis on meditation and chanting
The second workshop will also be divided into three parts:
1) Introduction to the Yoga-sutra attributed to Patanjali
2) Chanting of the Yoga-sutra with the explanation of its philosophy and practice
3) Practice of Yoga with special emphasis on meditation so that the participants canabsorb the following points.
Yoga is the powerful peace and peaceful power of a life lived straight from the Heart, for the Heart.
The dignity of Yoga lies in the purity of our Heart, not in the superficiality of a distorted body shape or a sophisticated mind control.
So, Yoga is the exhilarating discovery of one’s Heart, of one’s true nature as a unique and sensitive being in relationship.
Handouts will be distributed among the participants and all the practices will be adapted to individual needs and situation.
