Eleanor Wheeler studied ceramics and sculpture in Aberdeen and Cardiff. She completed a PhD in architectural ceramics and public art at Northumbria University and upon returning to Northern Ireland, has specialized in making large scale sculpture for public spaces, buildings and gardens.

The series of work in this exhibition continues a lifelong fascination with animals and birds; our relationship with them and their ability to travel with no concept of borders, existing and surviving in complex communities; in balance with nature.

Esther Waugh trained as a landscape architect in Edinburgh and works in the project management unit for BCC a good many of her projects are based in Belfast’s open spaces and parks.

With this series of new paintings, she is extending her love of the landscape and knowledge of plants through the creation of detailed studies of common leaves. The leaves have been found walking in the countryside over fields and around hedges. The leaves studied aren’t perfect, but their imperfections enhance their natural beauty. Using scale and composition to reveal details, highlight colour changes and display the hidden beauty of these overlooked and trodden-on leaves.

Joy Hutchinson is a Landscape Architect and illustrator who has worked in both the private and public sector. She has been involved in a number of significant redevelopment projects including the Connswater Greenway, Belfast Castle Gardens, Belfast City Hall courtyard, Belfast Titanic Memorial, Belfast Gasworks and lately the redevelopment of the Tropical Ravine in the Botanic Gardens Belfast.

She has had a lifelong interest in horticulture and illustration. Joy’s paintings in this exhibition are mainly watercolours and transmit her delight and enjoyment of the natural world. Joy hopes they will also bring a smile to the viewer and perhaps encourage us all to slow down and take a longer look at the world.
