**We would love it if you could come and show your support for SaveCQ — this is a public event at which your democratically elected councillors will be hearing important information about the future of your city.**
Many of you will have received a letter in the post from Belfast City Council in the last couple of days, and might be wondering why and what it means.
You received the letter because you sent an objection to the first phase of the proposed development — phase 1B.
A couple of weeks ago we (SaveCQ) requested something called a pre-determination hearing. It's an opportunity for objectors and the applicant to make their case — on planning grounds — for or against the granting of planning permission.
Whether or not to grant a pre-determination hearing is at the discretion of the planning committee, and in this case, they deemed that the significance of the development and the number of objectors (that's you guys!) were sufficient grounds to approve the hearing. **It's only the second time this has happened since the council got planning powers in 2015, so we've done really well to get this far.**
SaveCQ have confirmed that we wish to speak and state our case against the granting of permission for this development in its current form.
The hearing takes place on Tuesday 13th February at 4pm in City Hall.
The development will be on the agenda for the planning committee two days later (Thursday 15th February), so this is an absolutely crucial time for the SaveCQ campaign — it's kind of our last chance to influence councillors.
If you haven't written your objection, you should do so in the next few days. See savecq.wordpress.com/action/
for everything you need to know.
**Just so we can have an idea of numbers, please only click 'Going' if you can definitely attend. Thanks!**
Seating at the event will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Additional standing room will be available.
