Poets and writers in Northern Ireland
A series of paintings by Fergus Dawson
8 Portraits is a collection of 8 oil paintings of poets and writers who live in and around Belfast, Northern Ireland.
I was inspired by the people that I found myself surrounded by,
people that I had met over the years from going to poetry events in Belfast, where there is a lively poetry and literature scene. Some of the people in this series are editors of literary magazines (The Tangerine, The Open Ear), others are working on novels, short stories and poems. Some have been the winners of national poetry prizes like the TS Eliot award. Some were born in Northern Ireland, others have come arrived here from such far fung places
as California and India.
I hope this series of paintings represents a cross section of some of the talent that exists in Northern Ireland in the literary
field, and I hope people can see in these paintings the admiration I feel for these people and their creative capacities.
There will be a few poetry readings on Thursday 12th Oct 7-9pm from some of the poets featured.
