September’s session of Belfast Science Café will be hosted by Dr. Karen Boyce from the Fire Safety Engineering Research and Technology (FireSERT) centre at Ulster University.
Large life loss in fires can often be attributed to the decision making and actions of people prior to, and/or during, the fire. In this interactive session Karen will explain how understanding of the behaviours of individuals and groups can help us design buildings that are fire safe. With reference to previous disasters and ongoing research, she will help us understand how and why we might behave in a particular manner, whether our behaviour is predictable and how current understanding of people behaviour can influence the design of evacuation routes in complex buildings.
This promises to be a fascinating talk and will take place in our usual venue in The Green Room, Black Box Café. Doors open at 6:00 pm, the talk will begin at 6:30 pm and finish by 8:00 pm.
